What a season this is! I happen to love Oscar season. Not just because I like to sit in a theater and be swept away to another world, but because film informs our lives in such deep and passionate ways. I use film as part of my methodologies as a sex coach, trainer and professor. Movies move us at our core. Check out my ratings for the top pix and top actors this year.

Okay. Have you seen these yet?

Read my ratings: 1-5 (5 is best)

(Nominees for Best Picture)

“The Artist” Thomas Langmann, Producer (4)
“The Descendants” Jim Burke, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, Producers (4)
“Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” Scott Rudin, Producer (4)
“The Help” Brunson Green, Chris Columbus and Michael Barnathan, Producers (5)
“Hugo” Graham King and Martin Scorsese, Producers (5)
“Midnight in Paris” Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum, Producers (5)
“Moneyball” Michael De Luca, Rachael Horovitz and Brad Pitt, Producers (3.5)
“The Tree of Life” Sarah Green, Bill Pohlad, Dede Gardner and Grant Hill, Producers (3)
“War Horse” Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, Producers (?)
I can’t believe this roster. The Tree of Life was a snooze, Moneyball was just okay, (still haven’t seen War Horse as it seemed to go right out of the theaters after its debut!), I loved The Help, liked the Descendants but don’t agree with its accolades, loved The Artist and adored Hugo, and of all the films nominated the single most magical was Midnight in Paris. See it for sure…..

For best actors, consider:
Demián Bichir in “A Better Life” (4)
George Clooney in “The Descendants” (4)
Jean Dujardin in “The Artist” (5)
Gary Oldman in “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” (4)
Brad Pitt in “Moneyball” (5)
Jean Dujardin won all the others and will probably pull this off at the Oscars, too. Imagine carrying a film without one spoken word; and why Gary Oldman is a shocker for one of the best sleeping medicines I’ve ever used–what a boring slow rendition of a spy thriller it was…..

For best actress, consider:
Glenn Close in “Albert Nobbs” (5)
Viola Davis in “The Help” (5)
Rooney Mara in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” (5)
Meryl Streep in “The Iron Lady” (4)
Michelle Williams in “My Week with Marilyn” (5)
This is going to be the toughest category of all. Don’t miss any of these performances! The one I particular resonated with was Rooney; but then again, watch how Williams morphs into a dead-ringer for the troubled and gorgeous Marilyn; and and to see Glenn Close as a man is riveting….along with her co-star. Wow. Much food for thought here midst great acting talents.
More later, off to the Oscars we go!!!
