In this course, you will be assigned to watch a Hollywood or foreign film on your own in advance each week. Each of these spectacular movies tells a story and shows us characters as persons with sexual issues in a world filled with sexuality as its theme.

We will address the characters as clients: taking their history based on what they do or say, finding key assessment indicators, understanding their sexual style, patterns, and blockages to their sexual evolution, then crafting effective treatment strategies for them as though they were our own clients. This is a rich experience in spending time with a client on screen, then digging deeply into their unique sexual journey and developing a way to assist them toward sexual self-realization. For clinicians and educators, “Sex in Cinema” is a revolutionary means for finding pathways toward sexual resolution and healing. It uses key assessment and treatment methodologies, such as PLISSIT, MEBES and others.

“Sex in Cinema” meets for five consecutive weeks as a teleseminar. You call in for one hour live and share with the group on the call. And you get to earn 5 CEs toward AASECT certification or renewal. This teleclass training is for professionals working with individuals or couples who present with sexual concerns, issues or dysfunctions. In each session, various models for clinical sexological assessment and treatment will be discussed on a case by case basis, such as the use of sensate focus, PLISSIT, MEBES, traditional sex therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral, REBT, Gestalt, NLP, psychodynamic and non-traditional approaches for designing and managing effective treatment plans for clients according to their specific case needs. After initial training in the variety of assessment tools and treatment modalities, which will be sent to you as part of your downloadable handouts, Dr. Britton will guide the discussion for the group, helping all to observe the story of each character as a potential client, noting aspects that can be addressed as indicators for assessment, then eliciting the process of finding strategies and possible pathways for designing treatment for that client. Participants will be expected to maintain a reflection journal, based on each film and characters, watch films on their own, and to be present for group discussion. At the conclusion, participants will: (a) be able to present insights about a “case” to the group, based on their favorite character; (b) be able to experience greater awareness, knowledge, confidence and skills in determining the most powerful course of treatment for a variety of sexual concerns; and finally (c) be able to express an appreciation for the value and impact of the use of commercial films as a pathway for clients’ sexual healing, as they portray strong role models for sexual distress and/or wellness.

Hey, it’s a new year and time to begin with a vision for how you would like to manifest your life this year. I always like to suggest making a list of your goals, visions, and wants by writing them down on paper or electronically. Then add in your accomplishments from last year and what you feel is going to be different about this one…..Think big, think sexy and think “Yeah, I can be, do or have THAT!” What you say to yourself is what you manifest, like it or not.

• Setting positive intentions
• Paying positive attention
• Focusing on what you want…

Those are the three secrets to a happy life. Now, get ready.

One of my favorite ways of visioning is to create a “Dream Board.” How do you make a Dream Board (or Vision Board)? Well, for starters, you get a foam core paper board as your foundation. Those are available from any discount office store. I like to use the triple one: Center for the main ideas, with the right and left for the “extras”. Some years I use the bagua from Feng Shui to indicate the nine various positions in a life or space to create and fill with new energies, such as relationships, health, family, creativity, career, and more. Connect with the spirit and energetics of this process as you proceed.

Step one: Collect images from newspapers, old photos, magazine clippings, or go to a crafts store and get anything that resonates with your desires, such as the varied array of stickers that are pictures or words, stick-on charms, any imagery, papers, decorative craft items that are used in scrapbooking. These are going to be the “images” that represent your dreams for 2012.

[Of course, there now are websites for visioning, and you are welcome to go virtual. However, I am pushing "old school" with an emphasis of the power of making images of your goals/dreams/wants as real, physical, and touch-able. I just got an iPad for the holidays, and I'm with you if you prefer to do this all on your e-platform. Either way, just do it! ]

Step Two: Cut, select, arrange on the open boards of foam in the placement you desire, such as Career at the top, Relationships on the right side, Sex at the center, Wealth at the bottom, Health on the left side, and Travel sprinkled on the corners. Or, maybe, as one client once did, you want to have a single board to represent each aspect of life that you want to empower and energize. As a gay man, he had 4 separate boards to show the range of his dreams for a mate, by type, age, venues for meeting “Mr. Right”, and images of possible attractiveness to align with his sensibilities. He met someone new within a month of creating the Dream Boards. You can, too!

Step Three: Finally, glue or paste your items onto the board to “seal” your dreams for what you are going to manifest. Then place it in a location in your home or office that you can view daily. You may want to add in affirmations, to power up your intentions, such as “I now have a gorgeous lover in my life”, or “I have the perfect career in my life now”, or “I am a world traveler who is meeting exciting new people every day”. Whatever shakes your booty or rocks your tree, go for it!

Afterthought: I have been making Dream Boards for years now; one of my favorite tasks is to go back and look at past “forecasts of my future” shown on the boards. I am always amazed and moved to see how much I have manifested in my life each year. And I sometime sneak a peak at old Dream Boards to remind myself just how transformational it can be to use the power of setting goals, energizing intentions, paying attention, and keeping a positive focus!

I am not really someone who you can ask about boxing….as I am a “Yo no hablo sports” kinda gal, I don’t really go for the big fight thing on the screen or in the ring. But as you read in my review of “The Fighter” and “The Wrestler” sometimes these themes can carry over into the sexlives of people—empowering ourselves, believing in our dreams, and finding healthy and enriching love relationships for starters. So, they do catch my attention now and then. This was no exception. Why? Well, first, I love Hugh Jackman. Who wouldn’t? A song and dance man (think Broadway star), hosting the Oscars, as the hulk of a hunk in the superhero genre (“X-Men” and his “Wolverine” character) or even the romantic lead (“Australia”) and you’ve got a hit player. And this is a role that shows his emotional range and his ability to showcase his talent for…well, acting! So, it wasn’t really about Hugh but the kid who played his son as the real star of this film, albeit a co-star with “the bot” –the real star of the film who stole our hearts and won the gold medal for great performances and going beyond your limits despite the odds. This was a fun, flashy, fast-paced film with plenty of special effects that left you panting (not that kind) and hoping for the hero to prevail. It is an allegory about good vs.evil, a modern day David Vs. Goliath and the theme of son and father, finding self esteem, becoming real, and vectoring against all odds. I loved it for its dazzling array of characters, all UN-real, as the fighting robots. I left the theater thinking that I hope I am alive long enough to see this kind of common lifestyle in my own times, when a robot can feel like a human and help us all to be great. And it made me long for a time when I can get my own personal bot, one that can shop, clean, cook and talk me into daring things I otherwise wouldn’t. Yup. A bot that steals our hearts. See it on the big screen or rent it if you have a giant flat screen.
